Sofia Monroy

Sofia Monroy is a Mexican-Swedish artist born on April 20, 1999, in Mexico City. For the first two years of her life, she lived in a small rooftop room with her father, originally from Tapachula, Chiapas, and her mother, originally from Luleå, Sweden. When Sofia was two, she and her parents moved to her mother’s native country. There, always influenced by her father’s musical taste and drawn to Mexico’s cultural mystique, Sofia began to develop a passion for the arts.

At 15, Sofia decided to participate in IDOL, the international music talent show, which gave her significant visibility in the country and allowed her to make her first contacts within the industry. This experience took her to other cities and even countries, inevitably leading her to want to return to Mexico.

Sofia signed with Universal Music Mexico under the sub-label Veo Sonora shortly after a visit to the country, prompting her to move to a completely new place and start from scratch. This sparked a profound exploration within her, not only of her music but also of her culture. Two years later, Sofia released her debut album Morena, pouring her heart and soul into it. The album is as personal, vulnerable, transparent, and eclectic as she is: a love letter to her roots and the two worlds that reside within her. Sofia has recently opened for major Mexican artists such as Jay de la Cueva in 2024, and in 2025 she opened three sold-out shows for Zayn (ex-One Direction) at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, playing for over 50,000 fans.

At 26, Sofía is poised to become the next big international artist. Her regional Mexican reimagining of her single “Diente De León – Tumbado (Live Session)” has already surpassed 400,000 total streams on Spotify alone, attracting audiences from all over the world. She subsequently released “Alma Dividida” with Mexican icon Vivir Quintana. Now, she’s venturing into a new musical era, presenting her new single “Pegadito” paving the way for what promises to be a pivotal 2026.
